Dunn's of Crouch End is owned by Christopher Freeman and his wife Christina. Christopher is a fifth generation baker. His great-great-Grandfather Robert Freeman came down from Brackley, Northamptonshire in 1820 on a hay wagon and started work as a baker in South Grove, Highgate.
Easter Range
Easter gives us all an opportunity to relax and enjoy the company of friends and family. Dunn's bakery has some ideas for a perfect easter break.
Of course, the traditional easter food is simnel cake and hot cross buns. Both are symbolic of the easter story. The cross on the hot cross buns is, of course, symbolic of the cross on which Jesus died on Good Friday. Round simnel cakes have marzipan balls on them, there are twelve to represent Jesus and his eleven faithful apostles. Judas is left off because he betrayed Jesus after the last supper.
Sometimes simnel cakes have thirteen marzipan balls because there were thirteen around the table at the last supper. Our hot cross buns are spicy and full of fruit. Try our traditional size or mini hot cross buns either white or wholemeal. Delicious on their own or with toasted with butter.
Making Baking History…
Dunn’s Bakery was first established in Highgate way back in 1820. That makes us one of the longest-running bakers in North London.
