Bread For Your Health

A healthy balanced diet is essential to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle. Nutritionists have been advising us for years to eat more fibre-rich starchy foods like bread, pasta, potatoes, pulses and less fat.

Bread is a good source of fibre-rich starch, is low in fat and provides protein, vitamins and minerals, calcium and carbohydrates essential to good health. Starch is not particularly fattening but good for you! Breads are therefore, medium calorie foods - just go easy on the spread and fillings on your bread.

A simple way of increasing fibre-rich starch in your diet is to incorporate more bread throughout the day with a breakfast croissant or toast and at lunch with a deliciously filled baguette, ciabatta or even a sandwich. Complement your evening pasta with garlic bread, your soup into a sustaining meal with thick slices of crusty bread or introduce some seeded dinner rolls at meal times. Why not make a summer pudding by lining a basin with bread followed by a mix of lightly cooked soft summer fruits or apples.
